Sing When You're Learning
is a dynamic project following a team of talented performers and musical artists as they help the teachers of Hanley St. Luke's Primary School to develop innovative, creative teaching practices through the use of Opera!

This project forms part of Hanley St. Luke's Creative Partnerships programme. Local delivery organisation PICL are working with a team of creative partners to develop creative approaches to teaching and learning within the school.

Whole School Sharing Assembly



The whole school came together to watch each other perform. They have spent the last term learning new skills, developing ideas and working together. They have developed some fantastic work and all very different from each other. Watch the video to see this wonderful sharing event.

A World of our Creation Y5 sharing session



Over the last few weeks Yr 5 have been developing their performance, 'A World Of Our Creation', inspired by Roald Dahl's BFG, and developing some fantastic ideas. Year 3 Perform Sally's Smile and the Fruitful Factory



3L and 3S have performed their mini operas together. They have been sharing the work they have created so far as well as linking their performance into a complete performance. Take a look at the video to see some highlights from the session.

A Cautionary Tale Y6


Mrs McNulty has been exploring the concept of DANGER to create a short opera performance. Supported by Creative Practitioner Debbie McAndrew, the group have explored a range of subjects related to the theme of Danger and are developing them in to a song. A World Of Our Creation Y5


Year 5 have adapted Roald Dahl's BFG to create a performance called "A World Of Our Creation". Year 5 have explored a range of performance skills with Colin Kilbride. They created an imaginary world and developed a range of creatures that lived, worked and played there. Have a look at the video to see the children in action.

Terrific Mr Tiger Y4


Year 4 have been working with professional actor and performer Debbie McAndrew to create a short piece of opera. The group have been exploring tigers and have adapted Roald Dahl's Fantastic Mr Fox to create an original piece of performance called "Terrific Mr Tiger". Sally's Smile and and the Fruitful Factory Y3


Year 3 have been creating a mini opera which uses Roald Dahl's Charlie and The Chocolate factory as its inspiration. Year 3 have been working with creative practitioner Colin Kilbride to create their own opera "Sallys Smile and the Fruitful Factory".
